Richmond Veterinary Hospital offers boarding for both canines and felines. We practice the highest standards of care and cleanliness for patients staying with us. We know that it takes a great deal of trust to leave your pet with someone else, so we want to assure you that we are professional, highly trained, and most of all, we love pets!
Prior to your stay, we require your pet to be current on vaccines including but not limited to, DHLPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines for canines. Feline patients require current RCP and Rabies vaccines. All patients (canine and feline) must be current with yearly fecal examinations.
It is recommended all vaccines be administered at least 14 days prior to the stay and that all pets are currently being given heartworm/flea and tick prevention.
Requirements for boarding:
● Distemper Vaccine
● Leptospirosis Vaccine
● Bordetella Vaccine
● Rabies Vaccine
● Annual Fecal Screen
● Negative Heartworm Test (dogs) or FIV/FeLV Test (cats)
Please review the following information to provide your pet the most comfortable stay possible. An adult owner who is responsible for making medical and financial decisions on your pet’s behalf must be present at the time of reservation check-in.
We recommend bringing your pet’s food, as a change in diet can cause an upset stomach. If you choose not to bring your pet’s food, we supply a bland diet to try to prevent gastrointestinal issues. Please bring any medications or supplements your pet is currently taking. There is an additional daily fee for administering medication. We do not recommend you leave other personal belongings such as beds, blankets and toys with your pet as they can become soiled and lost in the laundry.
Our facility consists of 7′ x 3′ and 7’ x 6’ indoor kennel runs. Our outdoor grass area is enclosed with a 5’ fence, which provides plenty of room for dogs to run and play. Each dog goes outside supervised four times a day for a minimum of 5-10 minutes each time. Housemates can be kenneled and let out together or separate depending on owner preference. Cats are kept separate at all times unless from the same family. Each kitty condo is 2-4 units with plenty of space for a bed, food and water dishes and a litter box. We provide the litter and litter boxes, which are scooped 4 times daily.
To help anxious pets feel comfortable we use a safe, made for animals, pheromone diffuser called “Adaptil” and in the very nervous pets, an oral pheromone treat called “Composure Pro” can be given. Each kennel area is equipped with a pet soothing sound machine specifically designed to help ease anxiety and reduce stress to make our facility feel like a home away from home.
While this facility cannot guarantee the health of any animal, we pledge to provide appropriate care to all patients. Please understand some conditions are often unavoidable in boarding environments, including, but not limited to, weight loss or gain, rough hair coat, upper respiratory infection, diarrhea, and fleas. Upon checkin we will request authorization to initiate appropriate treatment in the event your pet becomes ill during their stay and we are unable to reach you. We will ask that you provide a maximum dollar amount that you authorize for medical treatment at check in. This will give us the ability to begin care associated with any illness of your pet until we are able to discuss further treatment and related fees.
Check-in/out times are welcome between 8:30 am and 7:30 pm Monday through Friday or between 8:30 am and 3:30 pm on Saturday and Sundays. No pick up or drop off is available on holidays or after hours. If you have any further questions or would like a tour of our accommodations you can call or text (586)727-9018 to set up a viewing!
